Abstract

An elastomer is directly bonded to brass-plated metal during vulcanization by incorporating in the unvulcanized elastomer composition, in addition to the conventional compounding ingredients, silica in an amount of 10 to 40 parts per 100 parts by weight of elastomer and an organic salt of cobalt in an amount sufficient to provide 0.2 to 1% by weight of cobalt based on elastomer. The preferred salt is cobalt naphthenate.
