Abstract

1,122,429. Stays for cars &c. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. 15 Sept., 1966 [6 Sept., 1965; 2 Dec., 1965], Nos. 38030/65 and 51227/65. Heading E2F. A stay mechanism for holding open a bootlid or bonnet of an automobile, skylight, window, the lid of a box, or the light of a horticultural frame, comprises first and second members 10 and 11 connected together in overlapping relationship for relative movement in forward and reverse senses between two positions, spring means urging the two members together in a direction normal to the said direction of movement, the member 11 being formed with projections 15, 16 and 17 and the other member 10 with recesses 20 and apertures 19 on the same radius as the recesses but spaced apart therefrom, the shape and positions of the recesses and apertures being such that the projections are located in the recesses when the arms are in one of said positions and in the apertures when the arms are in the other of said positions and will cam into and out of the recess and the aperture upon relative movement of the two members away from said one position. As shown in Fig. 4, the spring means comprises two resilient caps 25 and 26 with internal bored boss. 27, the free ends of which sits against the shoulders 23 and 24 of a pin 23 on which the arms 10 and 11 pivot and the caps 25 and 26 bear resiliently against the outer faces of the said arms. The projection may be in the form of a ball (Fig. 8, not shown) or a roller (Fig. 9, not shown).
