Sewing-machines; presser-feet; work-guides.- For overlapping and stitching together the edges of two pieces of fabric, the throat-plate 16, Fig. 18, is provided with a V-shaped rib 17 cut away at 18 and with a part 28 on cne side of the rib on a lower plane than the surface at the other side of the rib. Co-operating with the throat-plate is a presser-foot comprising a main section 21 and an auxiliary section 22 resiliently supported and guided thereon, the two sections forming a presserfoot having an open-ended slot embracing the rib. The edges f , f<1> are led into the slot of the presserfoot on each side of the rib, and a wing 31 on the part 22 folds the edge f under the edge f<1> which is in turn laid flat by the projection 32 on the main part of the presser foot. The overlapped edges are then fed to the stitching mechanism which, in the example described, consists of three needles co-operating with a single looper and a surface-thread-laying device. The edges are trimmed as they pass into the slot by a fixed blade 19 carried by the main presser-foot section and a co-operating movable blade 20. The rib is slightly to one side of the central needle so as to ensure that the overlapped edges shall be symmetrical with respect to the needles.
