Abstract

Coating compositions comprise polytetrafluoroethylene and a metallic powder consisting of particles of a metal or of an alloy in the form of spangles or platelets. Suitable metals are nickel, chromium, magnesium, bronze, brass, copper (plated or otherwise), nickel silver, or beryllium. Other non-metallic pigments such as carbon black or sugar may be present.ALSO:An article, for example, a cooking utensil, has a lining based on a polytetrafluoroethylene, into which is incorporated a metallic powder consisting of a metal, an alloy or a mixture of metals, the powder being in the form of spangles or platelets. The metal may be aluminium, gold, stainless steel, nickle, chromium, magnesium, bronze, copper (plated or otherwise), nickel, silver or beryllium. Other non-metallic pigments may be incorporated into the lining, for example, carbon black or sugar. A surface of the article, which may be of aluminium, may be treated prior to application of the coating to form a regular microcavity by means of a mixture of chromic acid and phosphoric acid or by spraying the materials which may adhere to the surface. The lining may be applied as a homogeneous suspension which is spread over the surface and the surface is then treated to evaporate the liquid component and cause sintering.
