Abstract

1,121,043. Opening containers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. 23 March, 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 28204/66. Heading B8D. The connection between a pull tab and the tear-out portion of a sheet-metal container component, to which the tab is secured, has a sealing medium applied on one side to guard against leakage. As shown, the tab 2 is secured by a rivet 5 formed within the area (3), Fig. 2 (not shown), to be torn out and extending through a hole in the tab. The sealing medium extends across adjacent parts of the score line defining the tear-out portion, and these parts may be of greater depth than the rest of the score line. In a modification, the rivet is formed in the material of the tab as well, Fig. 4 (not shown). The sealing medium may be a plastisol, a wax or wax/polyethylene blend, a rubber based material, or a hot-melting polyamide adhesive.
