Abstract

1,119,756. Centrifugal pumps. MARINE CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN CO. Feb. 24, 1967 [Aug. 11, 1966], No. 8927/67. Heading F1C. [Also in Division B8] In a submersible pump for liquids or liquids containing solids, e. g. fish, the liquid is delivered from an inlet 14 through impeller 41 and on annular passage 21 to an outlet, 15 without any abrupt changes in flow direction. The impeller blades 41a are curved circumferentially. The impeller is driven by a hydraulic motor 3 contained in a hollow inner casing 2 connected to the outer casing 1 by upstream portions 20<SP>a</SP> of flow-straightening vanes 20, 20a. The motor driving liquid is delivered through a conduit 31 and is exhausted into the casing 2 for cooling by the pumped liquid, whereafter it flows through a passage 20<SP>1</SP>a in one of the vane portions 20 to an outlet hose 32a. Due to the pressure of the exhausted driving liquid, leakage of pumped liquid into casing 2 is prevented. The exhausted driving liquid instead leaks to the main flow via bearing 40 and seal 40a thereby lubricating the bearing. The casing 1 is in three parts 10, 11, 12 bolted together at 13, 13a, the impeller being removable after removal of lower part 11. An annular rubber bumer 12a prevents damage of the pump by impact. An inlet screen 50 prevents the entry of large fish into the pump. The pump is suspended by a cable attached to a bridle B connected to diametrically-opposed lugs 19 on the casing 1.
