Abstract

1,119,168. Marine slismic detonator. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 Feb., 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 11988/66. Heading F3A. An electric detonator for underwater use is rendered harmless if not fired within a given time by water entering the casing 11 through at least one aperture 12 closed by a particulate water-gellable colloid 14, e.g., gelatine, polyvinyl alcohol, maleic anhydride/vinyl copolymer, or water soluble cellulose ether. The aluminium/manganese alloy casing 11 contains a base charge 15 of PETN, a priming charge 16 of lead azide which is ignited when a current is passed through a bridge wire 18 embedded in a match-head composition 19.
