Abstract

1,117,462. One-way acting brake. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Nov., 1965 [23 Jan., 1965], No. 3069/65. Heading F2E. [Also in Division G3] In a clockwork mechanism rotation of the arbor of a going barrel is confined to the direction of winding of the mainspring by a ratchet device comprising a moulded plastics member 1 having teeth 3, 4 engageable with the teeth of a ratchet wheel (not shown) carrying the barrel arbor; a projecting resilient blade 5 engaging a stop at its end 6; and a projecting portion 7 engageable with the going barrel. When the barrel arbor and the ratchet wheel are rotated to wind the mainspring the teeth 3, 4 are forced out of engagement with the ratchet teeth, and the member 1 rotated against the action of the blade 5. When the barrel arbor is released the blade 5 returns the teeth 3, 4 into engagement with the ratchet wheel, the wound mainspring being prevented from rotating the member 1 to disengage the teeth 3, 4 from the ratchet wheel by the engagement of the projection 7 with the going barrel.
