A conveyer comprises a tube 11 of plastic or stainless steel, and a flat flexible endless nylon belt 10 which has inherently low friction characteristics and is without any absorbent reinforcement material. The belt 10 has an upper reach trained through the tube 11 and is arranged to slide in the bottom of the tube 11 in trough shape with a lower return reach underneath the tube 11. The belt 10 passes over crowned idler and drive rollers 12, 15, which centre the belt 10, and over curved return shoes 13. A head assembly 20 comprises a bracket 23 supported on the tube 11 by split collars 24, 25 and carries troughing rollers 16 and the idler roller 12 with belt tightening screws 35. A tail assembly 21 comprising a bracket 56 is similarly mounted on the tube 11 by split collars (50), (51), Fig. 4 (not shown), and carries troughing rollers 16, the drive 15 and a motor 55. Other split collars 40 with hanger brackets 41 for connection to suitable supports 43 are provided at intervals along the tube 11. The tube 11 protects the material on the belt 10 from drafts and also forms a flue inducing a flow of air and thus reducing the head resistance. An external blower may be used to eliminate the head resistance by producing a flow of air at the same velocity as that of the belt 10. The tube 11 provides exclusive support for the brackets 23, 56, rollers 12, 15, and the motor 55 and is readily portable. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,043,067.
