[Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A teaching apparatus for control engineering is supported on a backboard and comprises an input rod 1, the movement of which operates an air control valve 25 so as to cause a corresponding opposite movement of a piston-rod 7. A link 5 connects the rods 1 and 7. The control valve 25 is operated by a flapper 11 which is connected to the link 5 through a spring 12, damper 13 and spring support 17; the flapper is held at its upper end in a clamp 21 and serves to modulate air nozzles (34), Fig. 4 (not shown), to control the leakage of air from each end of the piston cylinder 8. The piston-rod 7 is connected to the link 5 by blocks (61), (63), Figs. 3a and 3b (not shown), which are supported on cables (65) running over pulleys (66), the spindle (68) of one pulley being attached to a dumbelltype load 72. The input rod may be moved by cam or by hand and the movements of the piston-rod recorded. Adjustments may be made to the flapper 11 by operating a screw 26.
