Abstract

1,115,927. Pile coated substrates. BRITISH CELANESE. Ltd. 2 June, 1965 [2 June, 1964], No. 23589/65. Heading B2E. [Also in Division D1] A process for forming a pile on an article comprises adhering the article to a member at spaced regions of contact by means of a filament-forming plastics material and separating the member and article to draw. filaments of the plastics material therebetween whilst the material is in a deformable condition, and severing the thus formed filaments from the member to leave a pile on the surface. The article may have an uneven surface of the plastics material or a layer of the plastics material may be sandwiched between the member and an article having an uneven surface e.g. a woven fabric. In Fig. I, an article I having elevations 2 covered with a solution in trichloroethylene of polystyrene is adhered to a sheet 3, in Fig. 2, a textile fabric 5 having a solution of plastics material on upper and lower surfaces is passed between two rolls 6 and 7. Other drawings (not shown) show processes in which filaments are formed on a fabric by contacting the fabric with a plastics foil under suitable conditions to form filaments.
