A rear-view mirror comprises a reflector (not shown) carried by a stanchion or arm 1 integral with, or rigidly attached to, a spindle 2 rotatably mounted in a bracket 3 fixed to a wing panel 6 of a vehicle (not shown), indexing castellations 11 on either the stanchion, or the spindle (not shown), and on the bracket 3, a compression spring 12, and a split cone 16 of steel or synthetic plastics, urged into a conical recess 17 in the bracket 3.
