Abstract

A single liquid phase aerosol antiperspirant composition comprises by weight from 6 to 15% of at least one dissolved inorganic astringent salt, from 6 to 24% of water, from 30 to 60% of at least one alcohol containing up to 6 carbon atoms, from 15 to 45% of an aerosol propellant and from 0.25 to 6% of at least one alkali metal salt of a benzene, toluene or xylene sulphonic acid. The astringent may be zirconium chloride, hydroxychloride or sulphate, zinc chloride, sulphate or phosphate, aluminium chloride, sulphate or oxychloride, or their hydrates, e.g. AlCl3.6H3O or ferric chloride or ferrous sulphate: preferred is aluminium chlorhydrate. A mixture of zirconyl hydroxy chloride with the aluminium chlorhydrate complex disclosed in Specification 835,385 may be used. Suitable alcohols include methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. Propellants may include dimethyl ether and various chlorofluorohydrocarbons. Anti-bacterial agents, e.g. hexachlorophene and buffers, e.g. urea may be included.ALSO:A single liquid phase aerosol antiperspirant composition comprises by weight from 6 to 15% of at least one dissolved inorganic astringent salt, from 6 to 24% of water, from 30 to 60% of at least one alcohol containing up to 6 carbon atoms, from 15 to 45% of an aerosol propellant and from 0.25 to 6% of at least one alkali metal salt of a benzene, toluene or xylene sulphonic acid. The astringent may be zirconium chloride, hydroxychloride or sulphate, zinc chloride, sulphate or phosphate, aluminium chloride, sulphate or oxychloride, or their hydrates e.g. AlCl3. 6H3O or ferric chloride or ferrous sulphate: preferred is aluminium chlorhydrate. A mixture of zirconyl hydroxy chloride with the aluminium chlorhydrate complex disclosed in Specification No. 835385 may be used. Suitable alcohols include methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. Propellants may include dimethyl ether and various chlorofluorohydrocarbons. Anti bacterial agents e.g. hexachlorophene and buffers e.g. urea may be included.
