Abstract
1,112,124. Drying ceramics. A. TEMPORA. 23 July, 1965, No. 31405/65. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying ceramic material, tiles and the like comprises horizontal passages 1, 2, 3, 4 superimposed one on another, through which the material to be dried is conveyed on carrier racks 8 drawn by conveyer chains 7 from a vertical shaft inlet section 5 leading into the passage 1 to a vertical shaft outlet section 6 of the passage 4, the racks passing through each passage in countercurrent to a drying air stream. The passages 1, 4 are adjacent each other to locate the loading and unloading zones together. The countercurrent air stream in each passage is induced from an air inlet E in the passage 4 by a suction fan 11 in a passage 10 beneath the lowermost passage 1 and communicating therewith through valved parts U1 U2, U3. Some or all of the racks may be formed with a horizontal closed bottom 12 adapted to form a seal with the walls of the vertical shaft and to prevent swinging of the racks during horizontal movement through the passages.
