Abstract

1,112,111. Differential gears. HUMBER Ltd., and J. LEWIS. 15 June, 1965 [16 June, 1964], No. 24973/64. Heading F2D. A motor-vehicle bevel gear differential may be locked by a positive clutch sleeve 45 slidably splined at 38 on the half-shaft 24 and movable into engagement with corresponding splines 44 on a coupling member 41 keyed at 40, 41 to the planet carrier 22. Movement of the clutch sleeve 45 is effected through linkages 56, 52 and a forked lever 50 mounted on a spindle 51, the link 52 bearing on a tongue 55 of an arm 54 (Fig. 2, not shown) fast on the spindle 51 for positive disengagement, engaging movement of the clutch sleeve 45 being resiliently effected by the link 52 in the opposite direction through a spring (53) (Fig. 2), the teeth on the clutch sleeve and carrier coupling member being chamfered to facilitate engagement.
