Abstract

A process for the manufacture of a nylon warp-knitted fabric comprises the use of two or more yarn systems two or more of which produce tricot, cloth or satin stitch in opposite directions the resulting fabric being subjected to warpwise tension whilst reducing in width and subsequently stabilized while under tension. In one example a satin-tricot stitch fabric is overfed to a tenter frame by 5% and is heated at 190 DEG C for 20 seconds. The fabric is then treated in a high pressure dyeing machine at 70 DEG C with an 0.2% aqueous solution of sodium carbonate containing 0.2% ethyloxylated lauryl alcohol with 10-20 ethylene oxide groups per molecule, washed and then treated at 120 DEG C with an aqueous solution containing 0.15% sulphonated stilbene optical bleaching agent. It is then dried at 100 DEG C. In a second example the same fabric is treated in a padding machine as previously described in relation to the dyeing machine and then tentered and treated with the bleaching agent and dried. In a third example a fabric formed with two tricot and one satin stitch formation was produced and treated in the first example.
