Abstract

1,110,162. Rotary sliding vane machines. K. EICKMANN. July 9, 1964, No.57161/66. Divided out of 1,110,161. Heading F1F. In a rotary sliding vane machine operable as a pump, compressor, motor or I. C. engine, comprising a stationary casing ring, a rotor eccentrically mounted therein having a central part and side walls extending radially outwards thereof, a plurality of radial slots extending across the width of the central part into the side walls and with the inner faces of the side walls sealingly embracing opposite side faces of the casing ring, each radial slot slidably mounts a vane 20, Fig. 1, comprising a central portion 21 having axial extensions 22, 23, with outwardly radial projections 24, 25. The central portion 21 extends across and slides in the slot in the central rotor part and the extensions 22, 23 with the projections 24, 25 slide in the slot extensions in the rotor side walls with faces 39, 40 on the projections sealingly embracing the opposite side faces of the casing ring. At least one face of the vane is formed with grooves 31, 32, 35, 37 mounting sealing gaskets 41, 42, 45, 47 so that the axially extending face of a working chamber of the machine at all times lies within the gaskets to effectively seal the working chamber from an adjacent working chamber. Preferably both sides of the vane are formed with grooves fitted with gaskets, with the axially extending gaskets 45, 47 urged apart and into sealing contact with the side faces of the slots by springs (coil or leaf) or fluidpressure or a combination of both. Each vane 20 is provided with a slipper pivotally mounted on a pin (27), Fig. 2 (not shown) supported in bores 28, 29 in the vane. The gaskets abut or intersect each other and include transverse pins 50 therebetween to prevent the gaskets sliding longitudinally. The gaskets may be made of metal or alternatively of a resilient plastic material in which case the gaskets are formed with lips adjacent the slot sides which enables the springs to be omitted. In a modified construction of vane, the four grooves with the four gaskets on each face of the vane may be replaced by a single substantially elliptical groove with a corresponding gasket. The axially extending grooves 35, 37 may be triangular in cross-section with complementary-shaped gaskets and the radially extending grooves 31, 32 convergingly tapered radially outwards with complementary-shaped gaskets so that on rotation of the rotor centrifugal force urges the gaskets into sealing engagement with the rotor slot.
