Abstract

1, 109, 951. Impact hammers. LANGENSTEIN & SCHEMANN A.G. 27 Jan., 1966 [10 Feb., 1965], No. 3804/66. Heading B3H. In a double-drive impact press the platens 6, 7 are actuated on their working strokes by pressure gas and are retracted by pressure liquid in inner chambers 11, 12. The platens carry dies 8, 9 and are slidable in guides (50a), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the press frame (50). Pistons 4, 5 connected to the platens are subjected on their outer ends to continuous gas pressure in chambers 1, 2 connected to enlarged chambers 1b, 2b and supplied with gas from bottle 21. The inner chambers 11, 12 are connected by large area liquid links in ducts 14a, 14b and ports 13c to coupling cylinders 13a, 13b containing coupling pistons 15a, 15b connected to the opposite platens. Ducts 14a, 14b can be closed or opened by blocking valves 16a, 16b. These are held closed by pressure liquid in ducts 30, 31 controlled by a main control valve 33 operated by magnetic pilot valves 47, 48. Valve 47 causes the blockings valves 16a, 16b to be released for initiating an impact stroke; valve 48 effects closing of the blocking valves by pressure liquid. The liquid is supplied from reservoir 25 by pumps 23, 24. Auxiliary control valves 34 controlled by magnetic pilot valves 43, 44 are also provided for operating the press, particularly for providing a series of impacts which may be of different stroke lengths. These pilot valves 43, 44 are controlled by adjustable limit switches (58a), (58b), Fig. 5 (not shown), actuated by cams (59) on the platens. The switches are adjusted by pairs of rack-andpinion mechanisms (57), (60a). Control liquid for actuating the various valves is supplied to duct 39 by a separate pump 38. Inching control valves 32a, 32b are also provided. Setting screws 60b are used to adjust the degree of movement of the blocking valves 16a, 16b for varying the impact of the platens. In another embodiment, Figs. 3, 4, the coupling pistons 15a, 15b are stationary and their cylinders are carried by the platens.
