Abstract

1,109,919. Two-part couplings. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. 23 Nov., 1965, No. 49615/65. Heading H2E. Sockets for engaging pins 16 of a multi-pin plug 14 are secured in pairs in bores 11 of a plastics moulding 10 by plastics pins 25 which pass through orientated holes 24 and 13 in the socket members 12 and moulding. The bores 11 and holes 13 are sufficiently large to allow the socket members some freedom of movement. Both ends of each socket member are drilled, the contact end having a region of reduced diameter consisting of four slightly flexible limbs formed by slots (22, Fig. 3, not shown) and embraced by a pressure ring 23, and the other end receiving a conductor 20 which is soldered to it through a slot 21. The parts may be palladium-plated. Some socket members, instead of being soldered to conductors, may have their ends formed as plug pins (Fig. 4, not shown), and pairs of socket members may be electrically connected by using split metal tubes in place of the plastics pins 25. Each plug pin 15 is guided into its corresponding socket by a shaped hole (19, Fig. 2, not shown), in the moulding 10. Guiding recesses 17 and 18 in a moulding 14 incorporaing a number of plug units ensure correct orientation of the socket connectors.
