Abstract
o-Aminoazo dyestuffs of the stilbene series are obtained by coupling, suitably in aqueous pyridine solution, diazotized 4-amino-31-chloro (or fluoro)-stilbene-2-sulphonic acid with 2-amino-naphthalene or 2-aminonaphthalene sulphonated in the 1-position. The dyes are oxidized to naphtho triazole stilbene derivatives (see Division C2). Washing agents, washing liquors and detergents contain brightening agents of formula <FORM:1108865/C4-C5/1> wherein X is F or Cl or a salt thereof. The washing liquor may contain ionogenic washing agents and also agents which give off chlorine, i.e. bleaching agents and many are specified. Fillers, auxiliaries and foam stabilizators that may be present are also specified. In brightening detergents the brightening agents are suitably incorporated as solutions in neutral, water miscible and/or easily volatile organic solvents but may be admixed in finely divided form with or without dispersing agents. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 717,889.ALSO:The invention comprises stilbene derivatives of formula <FORM:1108865/C2/1> wherein X is F or Cl and salts thereof. They are prepared by oxidation of the o-aminoazo dyestuff obtained by coupling a diazotized 4-amino-31 - halogenostilbene - 2 - sulphonic acid with either 2-aminonaphthalene or 2-aminonaphthalene sulphonated in the 1-position and optionally forming a salt of the product. The coupling is preferably carried out in aqueous pyridine solution and the oxidation may be effected with air in the presence of Cu-(II) salts. The compounds may be used as brightening agents (see Divisions C5 and D1). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 717,889.ALSO:Fibres and fabrics of cellulose or synthetic polyamides e.g cotton and nylon are brightened by treatment with compounds of formula:- <FORM:1108865/D1-D2/1> wherein X is F or Cl or a salt thereof. The brightening agents may be used as additives in washing and detergent compositions. 717,889.
