Abstract

Compositions comprise a resinous vinyl chloride/ethylene copolymer containing 60 to 98 weight per cent of polymerized vinyl chloride and at least 50 parts by weight of a filler per 100 parts of copolymer. The compositions may also comprise a minor proportion of external plasticizer. The polymer component may be a blend of copolymers or may comprise a terpolymer containing up to 15 weight per cent of other monomers, e.g.propylene, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or methyl methacrylate. The compositions may also comprise stabilizers, dyes, pigments, lubricants, mould release agents and curing agents, e.g. peroxides and sulphur, and may be made into floor covering materials. Extensive lists of fillers, aggregates and plasticizers are given and examples describe compositions comprising one or more ethylene/vinyl chloride copolymers and (1) calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, stearic acid, paraffin wax, epoxidized soya bean oil and barium/cadmium ricinoleate; (2) asbestos, limestone, titanium dioxide, chlorinated biphenyl, epoxidized soya bean oil, barium/cadmium soap and triphenyl phosphite; (3) calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, epoxidized soya bean oil, barium/cadmium ricinoleate, alkali metal phosphite, paraffin wax and stearamide or stearic acid; (4) calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, stearic acid, paraffin wax, epoxidized soya bean oil and barium/cadmium laurate; (5) calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, stearic acid and paraffin wax; (7) calcium carbonate, clay, titanium dioxide, epoxidized soya bean oil, calcium oxide, stearic acid, paraffin wax, barium/cadmium stearate and triphenyl phosphite; (8) limestone, titanium dioxide, dioctyl adipate, stearic acid and paraffin wax; (9) limestone and dioctyl phthalate; (10) limestone and talc; and (11) clay, dioctyl adipate and optionally talc.
