Abstract
1,105,723. Conveyers. GULLICK Ltd. 18 Oct., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 50051/65. Heading B8A. A self-advancing mine roof master support A comprising a rear unit 10 and a front unit 11 has an advancing hydraulic ram 14 incorporated in the base 12 of the rear unit 10 and connected to an anchorage in the form of a coal conveyer C through a universal joint 21 on the ram's piston rod 15 and a relay bar with a clevis 23 slidable along a rail 24 attached to, and extending longitudinally of, the conveyer C. A quick-acting clamping device 26, through a link 25, enables the clevis 23 to be clamped to the rail 24 after being adjusted therealong. The relay bar 22 extends through an arch or tunnel 16a of the base 16 of the front unit 11 and has lateral rearwardly tapering wings 22a. After the ram 14 has been extended to push or snake the conveyer C towards the coal-face observation is made (it being assumed that the coal face slopes from left to right looking at the coal face) to see if any objectionable down seam movement of the conveyer C has taken place. If some corresponding correction or up-seam (i.e. to the right as shown) movement of the support A is required, then clamping device 26 is released and the clevis 23 slid along the rail 24 by an appropriate amount and locked in its new position by the clamping device 26 (at this stage the wings 22a have been advanced out of the arch 16a). A guide bar 30 on the adjacent slave support B is correspondingly adjusted by an hydraulic device 32, clearance in a yoke 28 attached to the rear master support unit 10 allowing this, the guide bar 30 being pivoted at 30a to the slave rear unit 12 and to the device 32. Hydraulic props 13, 17 are lowered and ram 14 retracted to advance the support A towards the conveyer C. During the latter stages of this movement the front unit 11 centralizes slidably on the relay bar 22 by re-engagement of the wings 22a in the tunnel 16a. At the same time the rear unit 10 is repositioned by engagement of the yoke 28 with the guide bar 30. The support A is then re-secured by extending the props 13, 17. The slave supports B are then advanced in turn being similarly repositioned by roller followers 29, 29a engaging skids 27, 27a respectively on the front and rear units (in the case of the first slave unit B the means 27a, 29a are replaced by the means 28, 30). Instead of being infinitely adjustable along the rail 24 the clevis 23 may be attached at spaced points along the conveyer C.
