Abstract

[Also in Divisions B3 and F4] A thin flexible cutting disc 2 of a portable cutting or grinding tool is protected over half its area by a semi-circular guard 4, air laden with dust being extracted tangentially through an outlet 22 parallel to and normal to the plane of the disc and leading to a cyclone separator driven by a vacuum pump (not shown). The outlet 22 is connected to a flat, open edge 12 of the guard by a straight, closed edge 14 forming part of a triangular outlet extension 16. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a chasing tool is adjustable in position in a slot (346) of a guard (304) when it swings on a triangular arm (348), the apex thereof being pivoted to the guard at (352) and an extension (360) thereof being olamped by a wing-nut to a pin running in a groove (302) in the upper surface of the guard. Dust is collected as before, a closed portion (314) being curved and an outlet extension (316) lying at 125 degrees to a flanged open edge (312). In a third embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), the guard comprises two parts (404), (406) which are telescopic and spring-biased to the open position. Flanges (442) abut the wall, the part (465) retracting into the part (404) as the disc cuts deeper into the wall. In a final embodiment( not illustrated), ), two parallel discs are housed in one guard.
