Abstract

1,105,135. Cooking by electrically heated air. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 20 April, 1965 [17 Jan., 1964], No. 2148/64. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F4] A hot plate unit comprises a hob structure including a support 11 for a cooking utensil 12 or other article to be heated, an electrical heating element 20 spaced from said support and substantially isolated thermally from any solid mass of material which would otherwise act as a heat storage body, impeller means 15 for causing air to flow over said heating resistor, a delivery duct 10 for conveying air heated by contact with said heating resistor to a zone beneath said support so as to impinge directly on the article to be heated and/or on a member 21 of low thermal capacity from which heat energy is transmitted to the article, and a collecting duct 17 for extracting or collecting heated air from said zone or a region 19 adjacent thereto and returning such air to said heating resistor. The ducts shown are formed in a solid body and are lined with asbestos. Alternatively they may be formed by tubes of stainless steel. The side 1 la of the support 11 is perforated. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the aperture in the hob structure is sufficiently large to receive a plurality of cooking pots, e.g. four pots each of diameter not less than eight inches, which are supported on a perforated sheet (122) of copper or stainless steel. A further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) has four heating zones each connected by individual delivery and collecting ducts through selector valves to a common adjustable heating resistor and extractor fan.
