Abstract
A capsule containing a liquid curable resin and curing agent which are mixed when the capsule is crushed for use as an adhesive or sealant, is formed by encapsulating the resin by phase separation in polymeric material and adhering the agent in particulate form to the exterior of the capsule wall. The liquid resin may be a polysulphide, a polyepoxide or a polyisocyanate polymeric material. Curing agents for polysulphides may be dioxides of tellurium, manganese or lead or antimony trioxide. A corrosion inhibitor such as a chromate of strontium, barium or zinc, or zinc yellow may be mixed in the resin. In one method of forming the capsules, pigskin gelatine and gu arabic are dissolved in water and the pH adjusted to 4.5. Polysulphide resin is added with stirring and pentandiol solution added. Resultant capsules are dispersed in anhydrous 2-methyl-2,4-pentandiol and the capsules dried and rinsed. They are then shaken with particulate tellurium dioxide so as to be coated with this powder. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 902,061.
