Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A yarn traversing assembly 24 can be positioned on either side of a winding spindle 2 depending on whether a clockwise or anticlockwise wind is desired, the angle between the axis of the spindle 2 and the axis of the yarn traversing assembly 24 being variable so that conical packages 8 can be wound. A motor 10, mounted on a plate 36 pivoted at 38, drives the spindle 2 via a belt 12. The spindle 2 drives the traversing assembly 24 via a gear train (44, 46, 48, 52, 54, 56, 58) (Fig. 3, not shown), and a toothed belt 66. The traversing assembly 24 is secured by bolts 32 to a bracket 30 coupled to a bracket 42. The weight of motor 10 acts on a chain 40 to bias brackets 42 and 30 clockwise (Fig. 2) to press a roller 26, carried by the traversing assembly, against the package 8. To transfer the traversing assembly 24 to the other side of the spindle 2 the bolts 32 are removed, the connection between the brackets 30, 42 is slacked off, and the bracket 30 swung clockwise to the other side of spindle 2 and the connection between the brackets 30, 42 retightened. The traversing assembly is rotated through 180 degrees in a horizontal plane and re-bolted to the bracket 30. To bias the roller 26 against the package 8 the chain 40 is passed over a pillar 74. To allow for the conicity of the package 8, the spindle 2 is pivotally adjustable about the vertical axis of rotation of the gear (46) (Fig. 3, not shown), which is meshed by gears (44, 48) secured to the substantially horizontal shafts 2, (50) respectively.
