In a document file wherein the documents are filed between pairs of spaced movable guide cards 18, the bottom edges of the cards are stiffened and have open keyhole slots (28, 29, Fig. 3) therein to permit the cards to be snapped on to a pair of parallel rails 16, 17, the cards being sufficiently stiff to stand up on the rails either upright or inclined without additional support. The rails 16, 17 are supported in a tray 10 by the walls 11, 12, spaced above the bottom wall 15, and the documents are supported on the rails. Each guide card 18 comprises two superposed rectangular panels (20, 21, Figs. 3 and 4) of clear plastics material, such as cellulose acetate, adhesively secured to intervening plastics ribs (22 to 26) which extend across the width of the card. The ribs (22, 23) define a card-receiving pocket (27), and the keyhole slots (28, 29) are cut in the area of the ribs (24 to 26). In a further form (Fig. 5), the pocket (27) is open at the top edge, which is slit at (31). Another form of guide card (Figs. 6 and 7) comprises transparent front and back panels (32, 33) of unequal size, the larger back panel providing a flap (34) which is folded over at the top edge to overlie the front panel. The free edge of the flap (34) is attached adhesively to the front panel (32) by a rib (35) which forms a pocket for an index strip (37). The lower edge of the card is stiffened by ribs (38, 39, 41), and a pocket for a signature &c. card (44) is provided. In a modified file (Figs. 9 and 10), the rails (46, 47) are merely secured to vertical metal slats (48, 49), and the assembly is then fitted in a standard file tray (50). In a further form (Fig. 11), the rails (53, 54) are secured within a shallow rectangular frame which opens at the top and bottom, and could readily be fitted in rotating types of filing systems.
