Abstract

110,275. Babcock & Wilcox, and Meiklereid, D. G. Feb. 23, 1917. Scrubbers and washers.-In apparatus for separating ash &c. from the gases from furnaces &c. and of the kind in which a spray is applied to the outlet side of a screen interposed between the inlet and the outlet of a chamber through which the gases are caused to pass by a vacuum or pressure producing apparatus, the gases being moistened prior to their entrance into the chamber, a number of portable screens F are carried by members E resting on brackets D secured inside the chamber A, and a number of jets H supported by a conduit G deliver water, &c. in the form of spray or steam to overlapping areas of the screens. The gases enter the chamber below the screens through a pipe B, in which they are moistened by one or more spray jets H<1>, and leave the chamber by an outlet C. The screens may be arranged in inclined planes to present a larger area to the gases.
