Abstract

The invention comprises the compounds of formula <FORM:1101415/C2/1> wherein one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is -OCONR7R8 (where R7 is alkyl and R8 is hydrogen or alkyl), the remainder of R1, R2, R3 and R4 being hydrogen, halogen or alkyl, R11 and R14 are hydrogen or aliphatic groups(e.g. C1- 5 alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl), and R12 and R13 are either both hydrogen or are both absent (i.e. there is a double bond between the carbon atoms); and their production by reacting R7R8NCOCl or R7NCO with a corresponding hydroxybenzofuran, or reacting R7R8NH with a corresponding chloroformylbenzofuran. The compounds of the invention are pesticides (see Division A5).ALSO:Pesticidal compositions contain as active ingredient a compound of formula <FORM:1101415/A5-A6/1> wherein one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is -OCONR7R8 (where R7 is alkyl and R8 is hydrogen or alkyl), the remainder of R1, R2, R3 and R4 being hydrogen, halogen or alkyl, R11 and R14 are hydrogen or aliphatic groups, and R12 and R13 are either both hydrogen or both absent (i.e. there is a double bond between the carbon atoms) (see Division C2). The compositions may also contain at least one of wetting agents, solvents, solid diluents, edible substances attractive to pests (e.g. sugar, molasses and protein hydrolysates) and other pesticides (e.g. DDT, BHC and a -naphthyl N-methylcarbamate). The compositions may be applied to plants, areas (e.g. the soil) or materials.
