A method for straightening a continuous casting with a liquid cone after it has emerged from a curved mould comprises lowering the casting on a curved path which deviates from a circular arcuate path and is composed of individual arc-segments, the transition from segment to segment being graduated such that the strand deformations which occur, or the changes in length of the casting outer fibres in relation to the neutral fibre dependent on the cast metal, are equal to a factor not exceeding 4%, so that with a casting having a thickness D metres, and a critical deformation #y%, the radius RN x metres of each arc segment, out of which the curved path of the casting is composed is measured according to the equation
