Abstract

In an electric thermal storage heater air flow through a heating passage is controlled by a damper 7 so that when the core temperature is above a given volume the damper is in a fixed position, and as the core temperature falls below the given value the damper progressively opens to allow increasing air flow through the duct. As illustrated, the damper is operated by a bimetallic strip 12 which is thermally connected to the core 3 by a metal block 13. A Y-shaped lever 14 pivoted at 15 mechanically connects the bimetallic strip 12 and the damper 7. When the core temperature is above the given level the bimetallic strip is bent to allow the damper 7 to close under gravity, and at temperatures below the given level the bimetallic strip operates on the lever 14 to open the damper. The apparatus may be constructed so that the damper is partially open in its fixed position. An auxiliary heating element 18 may be provided in series with the core heating element to heat the bimetallic strip 12 during core heating and thereby ensure rapid closing of the damper 7.
