1,100,766. Repairing leaks. STRUCTURES & PIPEWORK Ltd. 11 Aug., 1966 [11 Aug., 1965], No. 34348/65. Heading F2P. An assembly for sealing a leak in a pipeline 1 comprises two half-sections 2, 3 each defining by walls 4, 5, 6 and 7 a compartment each forming with a gasket 8 and independently of each other a gas-tight seal against the pipeline, the compartments intercommunicating by a pipe 11. Secured to flanges 16 ... 19 are hydraulic rams 21, the piston-rods 23 of which pass through flanges 14, 15. In use, the half-sections are placed around the pipeline at some convenient distance from a leak and held together by nuts 25 screwed on to the rods 23, the upper section 3 being stood-off from the pipe by rollers 32, 33. The assembly is pushed along the pipeline to cover the leak and with a remotely-controlled vent valve 29 open to vent gas escaping from the pipeline, and the rollers are removed when operation of the remotely-controlled rams causes the half-sections to be clamped about the pipeline whereafter the sections are welded in position.
