Abstract

1,100,451. Valves; shock-absorbers. C. B. DE CARBON. 7 Jan., 1965 [7 Jan., 1964], No. 814/65. Headings F2S and F2V. The piston of a motor vehicle shock-absorber is provided with a flexible closure comprising one or more annular foils a, b arranged with one face thereof supported on an inner seat R and the other face thereof supported on a seat on an outer skirt J whereby one or other said face of the foils bears against its seat and the other is displaced therefrom according to the direction of fluid flow; a conical upstanding portion C projects from the inner seat R and permanently open passages are provided by notches i in the skirt J between the sharp edge e thereof and the sharp outer edge of the foils. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the permanent passage is provided between the upper surface of the foil and a sharp edge (K) extending transversely to the flow direction in a groove in the underside of skirt (J). The foils may be urged against the inner seat by a coil spring.
