Abstract
1,097,787. Surgical prostheses. ETHICON Inc. Sept. 22, 1966, No. 42363/66. Heading A5R. [Also in Division D1] A surgical prosthetic tube is woven from warp and weft yarns each comprising a mixture of filaments of collagen and filaments of an exemplified synthetic resin material which is non-absorbable in animal tissue, the tube being provided with a radial reinforcement of an exemplified synthetic resin material which is non-absorbable in animal tissue and which is arranged on the outer surface of the tube as, for example, spaced groups 12 of rings 1,2,3,4, so that the reinforcement is spaced intermittently along the axis of the tube but extends around its circumference. The warp and weft yarns may be of the same or different composition and the resin material of the radial reinforcement may be the same as or different from that mixed with the collagen filaments. Each ring 1,2,3,4 in a group 12 may comprise two weft yarns (15, 16) superimposed on the weft yarns of the main body of the tube and the weave of the tube and the reinforcement is exemplified (see Figures 4-11, not shown). The tube may be given heat treatment while on a mandrel, e.g. in an autoclave, to obtain the correct rigidity and the tube may be crimped. The tube may be treated by wetting and drying, and by using described tanning agents.
