Abstract

1,097,433. Repeater housings. CIT-COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Feb. 24, 1965 [April 16, 1964], No. 8054/65. Heading H2E. A connection between an underwater coaxial cable and a rigid underwater repeater, Fig. 2 (not shown) comprises a metallic sleeve 6 having bosses 62, 63 embedded in moulded polythene layers 5, 7. The sleeve has a central bore through which passes the conductor 4, and insulation 3 while the outer sheath 2 is welded to the collar 61. The sheath 9 of a connection cable is welded to a machined down part 64 of the boss 63. The central conductor 4 is connected to one terminal passing through an insulating bushing in the repeater cover and the sheath 9 to a second terminal. The mechanical connection between the repeater cover and the underwater cable is formed by two yokes, Fig. 2 (not shown), the first yoke surrounding the repeater, and the second surrounding the end of the cable, the two yokes being assembled by a ball joint.
