Abstract

1,097,224. Scaffold clamps. J. M. MARLEY. May 26, 1965 '[June 4, 1964], No. 23148/64. Heading E2B. A put log scaffold coupling comprises first and second body parts 10, 11 each formed from a length of generally channel-shaped material, each of said body parts 'being formed at one end of its web with an arcuate tube-seating recess and in its sides with a pair of aligned arcuate tube-engaging recesses 13, a cover 16 having a portion extending through a pair of aligned apertures 14 in the body parts and a bolt 17 having a portion extending through a pair of aligned apertures in the body, the arrangement being such that said cover and said bolt form a pivotal connection between said body parts so that when a first tube 12 is clamped in engagement with said tube-seating recesses by the cover and bolt, the tubeengaging recesses of one body part are moved towards those of the other to clamp a second tube between the body parts. The two parts 10, 11 are arranged so that the sides of part 10 extend into the space between the sides of part 11. The cover 16 and bolt 17 have flattened end portions 18 (Fig. 2, not shown) formed into a cranked configuration each of which extends through a slot 15 in member 10 and a aperture 14 in member 11. The other end of cover 16 is channel-shaped and slotted to receive the bolt 17. To assemble the coupling, the parts 10, 11 are pulled apart and placed over the second tube, the first tube is then placed in the tube-seating recesses and the cover 16 swung over the first tube. Tightening of the bolt 17 then effects simultaneous clamping of the two tubes. Various forms of end portions of the cover and bolt are envisaged for use in the present Specification as disclosed and claimed in Specification 1,097,225.
