Abstract

1,097,147. Carrying liquefied gases. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 27, 1965 [Sept. 4, 1964], No. 36906/65. Headings B7A and B7S. [Also in Division F4] Spaced vertically extending jaws 17 secured to the exterior of each of the flat side walls 16 of a liquefied gas storage container 12 and forming keyways 15 are engaged by bearing blocks 21 of heat insulating material, e.g. polyurethane foam or fibre glass resin adhesively secured to opposite sides of key members 19 integral with the walls of a surrounding supporting structure, e.g. the hold 14 of a strip lined with heat insulation material 20. The coefficient of expansion of the bearing block material is about 2À25 times that of the jaws 17 and the width of the key member 19 must be at least one-fourth that of the associated blocks 21 to ensure that the blocks 21 and jaws 17 remain in contact during the whole temperature range.
