Abstract

1,096,596. Disc brakes. LAMBERT BRAKE CORPORATION. , April 2, 1965 [April 2, 1964]. No. 14100/65. Headings F2E and F2F. A spot-type disc brake is operated by means of arcuate-shaped fluid distensible integral hollow members 58, 60 situated on each side of a brake disc 12, the members 58 and 60 being expanded by the entry of fluid through inlets 64 and 76 to urge pressure transmitting blocks 102 formed of plastics materials against the backing plates 86 and 90 which bear friction pads 88 and 92 respectively. When the brake pressure is relieved the inherent resiliency of the fluid distensible members 58, 60 will cause the friction pads to be withdrawn from the brake disc 12. Valve units 72 are provided to permit the bleeding of the fluid distensible members to permit air to escape without undue loss of hydraulic fluid.
