Abstract
The hydraulically operated friction clutch with a braking system eliminating the residual couple in the driven shaft, has springs effecting friction face divergence and clutch disengagement, and incorporates the brake between the otherwise freely driven shaft and its support. Springs are used to effect brake application and hydraulic pressure to effect its disengagement, with a common pressurised fluid supply serving both brake and clutch. A control system ensures brake disengagement in advance of clutch engagement. The brake springs (14) are preferably weaker than the clutch springs, and intersliding pistons each with two zones of different transverse section provide control of the clutch.
