Abstract

1,095,016. Regulating air compressors. J.C. BAMFORD (EXCAVATORS) Ltd. April 1, 1966 [April 14, 1965], No. 15976/65. Heading F1N. A reciprocating single or multi-piston compressor, has each cylinder 12 provided with one or more poppet-type inlet valves 14, the or each of which is actuated through a two-part cam follower 20, 21 reciprocated by a rotary cam 17 and arranged to be increased in axial length by supplying hydraulic or pneumatic fluid to a space between the two parts, whereby the or each valve is maintained open when the compressor is to run unloaded. The two-part follower comprises two telescoped pistons slidable within a fixed housing 23 having an inlet in communication with the space between the pistons and arranged to be fed with fluid when pressure in a reservoir exceeds a predetermined value. The two-part follower operates the valve through a push rod 16 and a rocker 18 against the action of a valve spring 19. An automatic outlet valve 15 is provided.
