Abstract

1,094,757. Magnetic fastenings. PLESSEYUK Ltd. March 5, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 11855/64. Heading E2A. A pivoted door 10 and a co-operating fixed frame e.g. of a motor-vehicle glove locker, include a latch arrangement comprising permanent magnets 17, forming part of a pivotable member including manual releasing means for the latch so that the pivotable member can be pivoted and the door released by a force appreciably less than the force necessary to open the door against the direct pull of the magnets. As described the magnets 17 are of ceramic material and are secured to pole pieces 18, 19, and 20, the pole piece 19 being pivotally mounted on a pin 23 secured to the door 10. The pole piece 19 constitutes the pivotable member and when it is moved by pulling an extension 21 passing through an aperture 22 in the door and forming the manual releasing means, the pole pieces 18, 19 are swung away from a steel frame member 15 so that the magnetic circuit is interrupted and opening of the door by continued pulling on the extension 21 is made easier.
