Abstract

1,094,689. Building and roofing slabs. G. J. VAN ELTEN. June 28, 1965 [June 29, 1964], No. 27289/65. Headings E1B and E1W. A wood wool building slab 2, which may have a cement facing layer, has each of its longitudinal edges reinforced by a galvanized metal channel 4 having an S-shaped portion 5-8 providing a tongue and groove interlock formation for cooperation with adjacent slabs, and internal flanges 14, 14' which, during manufacture, are clinched into engagement with grooves 10, 10'. The clinching may be achieved by hydraulic jaws 19 or by press wheels. A layer of tar paper or plastics foil, Fig. 3 (not shown), may be applied to the upper surface of the slab 2 prior to the clinching, said layer being then gripped by the flange 14. In a modification a roof slab, Fig. 4 (not shown) spanning between inclined beams has the thickness of its central portion reduced to leave thickened edges. In a further modification the thickened edges, Fig. 5, are rebated so that abutting slabs define a groove receiving an insulating strip 21 covering the joint.
