Abstract

1,093,300. Sewing machines. A. G. OCHSNER. Oct. 12, 1966, No. 45678/66. Heading D1G. An embroidery machine comprises means for advancing a strip of decorative material across the needle path for attachment to base fabric incident to the needle stroke, and means for cutting off successive leading segments of the strip after penetration thereof by the needle. A base 28 supports reciprocating rods 26 each carrying a holder 24 for a needle 18, and also supporting rods 34 each carrying a borer 22. A bracket 14 supports a row of shuttle boxes 16. The work C is supported by a Jacquard-controlled carriage. Thread T for each needle 18 is acted on successively by oscillating take-up arms 38 and 40. A bracket 58 supports a series of angle members 60, each of which is associated with a needle 18. A rotary shaft 72 carries at each member 60 a wheel 74 having radial pins 76. A strip M in the form of circular, perforated sequin-like interconnected elements passes from respective rolls R to each wheel 74, where successive pins 76 engage successive perforations. From wheel 74 strip M passes along a guideway in the vertical flange of member 60, the bottom edge 66 of said flange being adjacent the path of the associated needle 18. A knife blade 68, secured to and spring-biased away from said vertical flange, is adapted, when moved towards said flange, to co-operate with edge 66 to sever an element projecting below edge 66. The arrangement is such that when needle 18 retracts, shaft 72 is driven by Geneva mechanism to position an element below edge 66. Needle 18 in the forward stroke passes through the perforation in said element, and an abutment 82 on holder 24 then engages and actuates blade 68 for severing said element.
