[Also in Division B8] A mixing drum for granular materials is divided into three chambers by longitudinal walls 5 and sloping end walls 6, leaving a central axial distributing section 4 of triangular cross-section. This section is divided along its length into compartments the number of which is an integral multiple of the number of chambers, one side of each compartment being closed (see Figs. 4-8, not shown); they may be further defined by transverse triangular laminae. When the drum is rotated the material in any one chamber will be divided equally between the other two. At the conclusion of mixing a small representative sample of the whole may be obtained by collecting all the material in one chamber and then halving it any desired number of times by successive clockwise and anti-clockwis motions of the drum. In other embodiments there may be two sets of two chambers with two triangular distributing sections (see Fig. 9, not shown); four chambers with a central section of square cross-section (see Figs. 10-13, not shown); or two chambers with an elliptical distributing section, (see Figs. 14-9, not shown).
