Abstract
1,088,841. Motor generator driving arrangements. MAWDSLEY'S Ltd., and STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. April 15, 1964 [April 16, 1963; April 19, 1963], Nos. 14745/63 and 15477/63. Heading H2A. A set comprising a separate motor 1, 19 and alternator 2, 20 disposed above an associated flywheel 4 are arranged on a vertical common main shaft 3 which shaft and the flywheel are separately supported in aligned bearings 5, 12 and coupled together through a coupling so that the shaft does not carry the weight of the flywheel. The latter is mounted on a stub shaft 13 in a mounting 9 of the set, and the coupling comprises bolts 15 screwed into the flywheel boss 16 and received in resilient sleeves 18 in a flange 14 keyed to the shaft 3, the flange mounting a ventilating fan 22 which expels air through lower end frame vents 23; the flywheel itself may act as a ventilator. By simply lifting the set away and leaving the flywheel in position, maintenance is facilitated.
