Abstract

1,088,603. Ink-ribbon mechanism. EXCHANGE TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. July 1, 1966 [June 16, 1965], No. 25565/65. Heading B6F. Automatic ribbon reversal.-The ends of an ink-ribbon are secured to two spools X, Y and when one spool is completely unwound the resistance to the driving gear E, mounted on an arm L for engaging either gears A or B on the spool shafts, causes a synchronous motor to stall and a spring coupling to set the motor driving in the reverse direction. When the motor starts to drive in the other direction the driving gear E is forced to disengage from the previously driven gear to the other. The spring coupling (P), Fig. 2, firstly allows the motor to attain its synchronous speed against a reduced load and secondly it winds up as the ribbon tightens and, when the motor stalls, it provides a starting torque for the reverse drive. Brakes.-An adjustable collar (M) and helical spring maintains tension on the ribbon.
