The arms 2 which are pivoted at 3a to the rear of a trailer chassis 1 are provided with upstanding box structures 4 which carry pins 5 on which the axle carriers 6 are pivoted. A jack 10 connected between the structure 4 and the axle carrier 6 preferably with the interposition of a resilient element 13, is used to lower the rear of the trailer chassis to the ground and then to raise the wheels 9 clear of the ground so that the arms 2 may be swung from the rear to the sides of the chassis to facilitate rear loading. A slidable V-shaped locking member 17 operated by the pivoted lever 15 prevents lowering of the chassis in the running position.
