Abstract

[Also in Division H3] The pointer of a meter (or a vane associated therewith) travels through an air-gap in the magnetic circuit of an oscillator coil Fig. 1 (not shown) to vary the amplitude of the oscillator output to effect an alarm or control function when the pointer lies outside a selected range. Separate coils may be used at the up and lower limits Fig. 3 (not shown) Alternatively a toothed wheel on a watt-hour meter may rotate in the gap to operate a pulse-counter. Oscillator comprises a tuned coil 4 and feedback coil 3 mounted on a C-shaped magnetic core and connected with transistor T 1 to work in "class C" with the bias stabilized by a Zener diode D1, and negative feedback provided by resistor R1 which is adjustable to vary the sensitivity of the oscillator to the change in "Q"-factor of the coil due to the passage of the pointer through the gap in the C-core. Transistor switching circuit comprises a complementary pair T 2 , T 3 , with a relay RL and reverse-voltage limiter diode D2 in the collector circuit of T 3 . The "switching point" of T 2 is adjusted to match the oscillator output by varying the bias supply from R6.
