Abstract
A cleansing composition comprises a mixture of a cleaning material selected from synthetic non-ionic, cationic, anionic, amphoteric surfactants and soap, and between 0.4% and 7% by weight of at least one compound having the general formula <FORM:1084981/C4-C5/1> wherein p is 0 or 1; m is 0 or 1; when p is 0, m is <FORM:1084981/C4-C5/2> also 0 and when m is 0 <FORM:1084981/C4-C5/3> is replaced by H; R is chosen from saturated and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon groups having from 8 to 21 carbon atoms inclusive which may be hydroxy substituted; X is -NH2 or -OR11; R11 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive; R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive; A is chosen from when m = 1, <FORM:1084981/C4-C5/4> and, when m = 1, -OH; wherein Y is hydrogen or <FORM:1084981/C4-C5/5> and R111 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive.ALSO:Relates to compounds having the general formula <FORM:1084981/C2/1> wherein p is or 1; m is 0 or 1; when p is O, m is also O; when m=O <FORM:1084981/C2/2> is replaced by H; R is chosen from saturated <FORM:1084981/C2/3> <FORM:1084981/C2/4> when m=1, <FORM:1084981/C2/5> and, when m=1, -OH; wherein Y is hydrogen or <FORM:1084981/C2/6> and R111 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive; and to the quaternary salts thereof. The compounds may be prepared by reacting an amido compound having the general formula and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon groups having from 8 to 21 carbon atoms inclusive which may be hydroxy substituted; X is -NH2 or -OR11 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive; R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms inclusive; A is chosen from <FORM:1084981/C2/7> wherein y is 1 or 2; B is -NH2 or -OH; R is as above; with at least one reactant chosen from acrylamide, substituted acrylamides of the general formula <FORM:1084981/C2/8> R1 is as above, acrylate esters of the general formula <FORM:1084981/C2/9> wherein R1 and R11 are as defined above, and, when B is -NH2, butyrolactones or equivalent lactones, at a temperature between 60 DEG and 130 DEG C.
