Abstract
1,084,681. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1965 [Feb. 20, 1964], No. 5074/65. Heading F4H. In a refrigerator cabinet the free front edge of the liner is clipped into a peripheral recess in a member which is carried by the front edge of the outer shell, projects forwardly of the cabinet insulation and forms at least part of a stepped recess having is forwardly facing surface adapted to be engaged by the seal of the refrigerator door. As shown in Fig. 2, the breaker strip 42 extending between the front edge 32 of the outer shell 26 and the inwardly offset front edge 38 of the inner liner is stepped to provide a front-facing portion 44 which is provided with undercut grooves serving to locate a metal plate 48. The latter is arranged to be abutted by the magnetic door seal 50. A U- shaped trim strip 24 overlaps the front edges of the shell and breaker strip. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the breaker strip is omitted and replaced by a metallic member 8 having a U- shaped portion 86 embracing the front edge of the shell 74 and a rear portion which is folded around an outwardly directed flange on the front edge of the liner 76. In Fig. 6 the front edge of the outer shell is of double thickness and is folded around the front edge 131 of the liner, then inwardly at 135 in contiguity with the stepped portion 129 of the liner. The portion 135 may be omitted (Fig. 8, not shown).
